Actually this is about very first impressions.
After installing Windows 7 on the Motion LE1600 everything seems to work just fine.
The many bugs and issues from the beta1 have gone. Overall it seems more stable.
The motion dashboard (the one for the LE1700!) comes up and the options do work:

Fingers can be easily enrolled:

But there is an issue with the fingerprint reader: waking the LE1600 Tablet PC from Sleep – mode works for everything but the fingerprint sensor. After sleep you need to logon typing your password. So for now you have to use the Hibernation if you want to use your fingerprints to logon.
The Windows Experience Index is a 1 due to the Gaming Graphics limitations. But the system responds just fine to all user input and interactions. Microsoft has build a very responsive operating system. I expected the RC to become slower with more features completed, but Microsoft seems to have optimized quite a bit for the better.

Windows 7 RC even(!) remembers the settings for task icons!
This post will be updated in a couple of weeks when I have more to report on the usability of the motion LE1600 in the field.

The first real limitation seems to be the driver of the graphics card.
I could not get powerpoint to output the presentation on an external monitor. Not even when I changed the primary and secondary display. Powerpoint (2007) always used the LE1600′s display.
That is a real no-go. Because if you want to use the presenter view, or when you like to mark things on the presentation itself for the audience – that’s all not possible, because the presentation runs on the touch-screen leaving you without input on the other display.
Uninstalling the Graphics-driver – hoping win7 would jump in – leaves just the primary monitor.

PowerPoint 2007 – Presenter View:
1. the latest Intel driver does not make a difference.
2. Setting up the Slide Show does neither remember the choice for Presenter View nor which monitor to show the slide show on. it keeps jumping back to primary monitor each time one closes the Set Up Show – window.
So it may be it a Powepoint bug.

MZ it indeed maybe a Powerpoint bug.
My suggestion, the easiest, is to get help with this possible bug at Microsoft’s Powerpoint support site.
SEE: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX102871621033.aspx
It is free if this is your first Powerpoint request. They can log onto your system to see precisely what is causing the problem…and more importantly solve your problem.
As an alternative, OMNITECH Support, for Powerpoint is offering a try for Free 24/7.
In addition, there are a number of Powerpoint forums offering free help that are worth a try.

Thank you, CJ. I will give it a try next week and let you know. Hopefully their support covers Win7.

Well, it seems that there are some minor graphic driver issues: while playing a movie windows media player stalls occasionally upon moving or resizing its window.
Since this has not happend using vlc – this is not an issue to me.
Bluetooth works excellent – which I cannot say of my other dell laptops.
I have not tested the presentation mode with powerpoint yet.

Hi Maximilian,
I have Motion Computing LE1600 and trying W7 on it. But I have a few problem.
I know the rule, first look on internet and than ask, so believe me that I’ve read a lot of sites and blogs and can’t find the aswer. You’re my last hope, than only reinstall.
I’ve installed suggested beta driver for biometric sensor. I can see it in Biometric devices like AuthenTec Inc. AES2501A. BUT…In Preferences – Biometric devices the windows writes me that no biometric devices is found. Where could be a problem? Could you provide me some advice?
Thanks a lot
Best Regards

Hello Karel,
with the Windows 7 rtm or final you do not need the beta drivers anymore. As far as i recall they came with Windows Update automatically.
I did a new install of Win7 professional RTM:
1. install Win7
2. run windows update – it will find most devices and install them automatically – many more than the RC did.
3. I recall reboots – several times. After each restart check for uninstalles devices in device manager. If there are some run windws update again.
Do this until windows update does not find any new drivers.
I think only the audio devices and the motion dashboard cannot be found by Windows Update. But these devices remain known anyway. So you will know which drivers to use.
There will be one unknown device left: the TPM. I used the Motion-Vista driver.
In your case I would try to uninstall the beta driver (right click the device in device manager and select delete driver). reboot. run windows update to get the driver.
If that does not help here are some things I would look for:
Make sure the device is enabled in bios – though I do not know, whether there is an option to enable or disable that fingerprint sensor there. If the sensor has been working before you can skip that though.
Make sure you have the latest bios version. (I do not know whether you can flash the bios from vista or win7 since I did that when i was still using winXP!).
Hope that helps.
Good luck.
