To every Smartphone or PDA user who misses Windows Mobile Remote Desktop

To all happy users of the HTC Touch Diamond and other HTC smart devices:

This fall I went on vacation with my brand new Touch Diamond. It is a really great device. It amazes me how much technology is packed into this tiny phone! It is definetely a masterpiece. There is only one thing that really surprised me: Windows Mobile Remote Desktop Client (WMRDC) IS MISSING!

So I emailed with HTC-support back and forth to learn that it was simply not part of their HTC Rom image. I will spare all details: Microsoft has made Mobile Remote Desktop Client an optional component (see the Windows Mobile Version Comparison Matrix). Now it is up to the OEMs wether they include WMRDC or not.

Part of one of the answers I got from HTC’s mastersupport reads as following “… and I feel it unlikely that it (WMRDC) will be added to any future ROM releases unless there is massive complaints of end users – which we are not receiving.

With all the hits I get on google instantly (>26,000 google) I cannot believe there aren’t many customers who would like to have WMRDC. So I decided to make it as easy as possible for everyone with a need of WMRDC to be heard.

If you think WMRDC would be useful for you, I suggest you best do two things:

1. leave a comment here. So everyone can see transparently how many users would like to have WMRDC on their HTC-device. Once there are enough comments I will aproach HTC again.

AND additionally

2. contact HTC directly using their support form (http://www.htc.com/www/CS_Mail.aspx).

Leave a comment to plead with HTC to include Windows Mobile Remote Desktop Client into Touch Diamond and all current ROMs. Let’s see wether we will be enough happy users of HTC devices to make them care!

    PLEASE – include RDC.
Modern Phones have enough screen property anyway!

  2. Gary Fenton says:

I couldn’t believe RDC was missing from my HTC Touch. It’s very odd that a help file for Remote Desktop is included on the HTC (search the device for “remote”) and even tells you that you load the RDC clients from the Start menu!

Please add RDC back into Windows Mobile. I upgraded from a Windows 5 phone a few months back so was rather shocked that all-new Windows 6.1 didn’t have it. RDC on a mobile is critical for emergency use when you can’t get to a desktop or directly to a server to fix a problem.

  3. Steve Jones says:

I *need* this for my work. It’s colossally silly of HTC not to include it.

  4. Eric Williamson says:

Of course we want RDC. Go see all the iPhone sales of RDC clients. Thanks HTC for making me to go/download another piece of software that should have been on the phone in the first place.

  5. Alex Carlock says:

I can’t believe that MS made this optional. I need a PDA phone and one of the reasons I want it is for Remote Desktop. Since HTC doesn’t include it in their ROM that opens me up to other phone options like the Storm. Just put it in the ROM. If someone doesn’t use it that’s fine.

  6. Chris says:

Why would you cripple such a great device (Touch Pro) with NO remote desktop client? Did it not occur to you, HTC, that a sizable portion of your market for this device are us corporate IT folk that -require- this function?

  7. Niki says:

    needs WMRDC

  8. Nicolae Nechifor says:

WMRDC is a great feature of any Windows Mobile device, why remove it? at least make it available as an option, there are lots of IT admins that need the feature!

  9. BJ says:

Please please include the RD client – we need this app! I miss it from my 6700…my HTC Touch no longer includes it.

  10. Marty Nelson says:

Add me to the list as well. I too would have loved to have seen a remote desktop client installeld by default.

  11. So I just would like to let everyone know, that I switched to a HTC Touch Pro2 today – and SURPRISE: Remote Desktop Mobile is finally included.
It seems that HTC has received enough support calls from us all to include the software in the new line of products… great job everyone!
